ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs is responsible for providing the intellectual leadership for Mays Business School’s undergraduate programs. The Associate Dean will oversee undergraduate programs and provide operational leadership and vision in the development and implementation of innovative and distinctive undergraduate programs. The Associate Dean will be responsible for developing and promoting initiatives aimed at improving the quality of undergraduate education.

The Associate Dean will work in collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators to plan, develop, implement and assess programs that meet student needs and that fulfill Mays Business School’s mission of being a vibrant learning organization that creates impactful knowledge and develops transformational leaders. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of Mays Business School.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
 

  • GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
    • Represent the college on various university committees.
    • Act as dean’s designee in matters concerning enrollment management and admissions.
    • Serve on college Executive Committee.
    • Participate in strategic planning and implementation.
    • Meet monthly with Business Student Council Executive Committee.
    • Act as contact person for academic honor violations.
    • Act as dean’s designee for undergraduate academic appeals.
    • Speak at all summer orientation conferences.
    • Oversee classroom scheduling.
    • Prepare internal performance reports and provide data externally for college rankings, accreditation, and other stakeholders.
    • Assist faculty teaching online or hybrid courses with captioning videos and use of external proctoring services.
    • Coordinate all teaching awards and selection processes.
    • Prepare budgets for units under supervision, recommend salaries and promotions, approval of new hires.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • ADVISING/STUDENT SERVICES
  • Supervise Director with twelve staff, including advising, retention, recruiting, degree audit, add/drops, Q-drops, withdrawals, suspensions, appeals.

  • RECRUITMENT OF FRESHMEN
    • Oversee a spring multi-day recruiting event called LINC, bringing in 80 URM and first-generation students.
    • Liaison to Dean’s Board and Dean’s Council to assist in Honors and URM Recruiting.

 

  • HIGH IMPACT AND SPECIAL PROGRAMS
    • Supervise Director with four faculty, one staff and over 100 student peer mentors.
    • Assist departments and units with case competitions.
    • Oversee offsite leadership retreat designed to help students become more self-aware through reflection and portfolio development.
    • Oversee teaching/learning workshops for faculty and students.
  • COMMUNICATION LAB
    • Supervise Director with one staff and 15 student writing consultants

 

  • CURRICULUM & ASSESSMENT
    • Co-Chair of Curriculum & Assessment Committee. Act as dean’s designee for approving all undergraduate curriculum changes and program approvals.
    • Liaison to CBK Task Force on curriculum integration.
    • Coordinate all college assessment activities for both university and college accreditation.

 Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate, with credentials commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full or associate professor. Candidates with exceptional leadership credentials can be considered for appointment at the clinical level (without tenure) as long as they have earned doctoral degrees.
  • A distinguished record of performance in higher education, with a minimum of five years of related experience.
  • Administrative experience and proven leadership at the level of division chair, director, associate dean or the equivalent, including experience with personnel and budget management.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively with the multiple stakeholders of Mays Undergraduate Programs, Business School, and Texas A&M University.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Effective planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.Mays Business School’s student body is comprised of approximately 4500 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students.
