Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education faculty position in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Bagwell College of Education.

Position Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, the Assistant Professor of Science Education is expected to collaborate with faculty across the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP), teach science education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise and assist with field experiences, maintain an active research agenda (including publications, professional presentations, and external grant proposals), model effective teaching practices, use instructional technology effectively, and participate in program development. Some teaching may be conducted at off-campus sites. This is a 9-month, tenure track position.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Three or more years of teaching at elementary and/or early childhood levels.
• Experience or expertise in socially/linguistically/culturally responsive or relevant pedagogy.
• Experience or expertise in STEM education.
• Experience or expertise in teaching another elementary area (e.g., early childhood, math, literacy, social studies, technology, educational foundations, special education, or ESOL).
• Experience teaching at the university level.
• Experience teaching online courses based on an articulated philosophy of teaching and learning.
• Experience with edTPA or other performance-based assessments.
• Scholarship, service and/or experience related to P-12 students who identify within historically underrepresented and marginalized groups.
• Active in professional science education organizations.

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

• Doctorate in Science Education or Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Science Education (at least 18 graduate hours) or closely related field, or foreign equivalent. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered. ABDs close to completion will be considered. Must have doctorate in hand by August 1, 2018.
• Evidence of at least 18 graduate credit hours in science education
• Teaching experience with students in PK-12 schools.

The Bagwell College of Education (BCOE) is one of the largest and strongest teacher preparation units in the University System of Georgia offering bachelor's, master's, educational specialist, and doctor of education degree programs. All educator preparation programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by Georgia's Professional Standards Commission (PSC). KSU's Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) is the university's umbrella organization for preparing educators and includes 13 departments from five colleges all of which collaborate on the design, delivery, approval, and accreditation of all educator preparation programs. The EPP serves as a model of university-wide responsibility for teacher education; field-based collaboration with practicing professionals and partner schools; infusion of technology for enhanced teaching and learning; and best practices for the inclusion of English learners and students with exceptionalities.

As one of the larger departments at KSU, the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education has more than 80 full-time and part-time faculty members. The department serves over 1,500 Elementary and Early Childhood Education undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate majors. It offers programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Its M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education is offered online. Certification for pre-kindergarten to grade five is embedded in the undergraduate program. In addition, the department offers the Birth to Kindergarten Bachelor of Science degree program.
