The University of Southern Maine (USM) is seeking applicants for the position of Learning Designer. The Learning Designer applies knowledge of curriculum design, learning theory, and educational technologies to assist faculty in the design of digitally enhanced degree programs and courses. This position is part of a team that guides development of high quality online programs and supports digital learning initiatives across the curriculum. The Learning Designer provides curriculum design and ad-hoc consultation and support, as well as ongoing faculty development with the design and delivery of faculty workshops and other forms of faculty development.  This position will also help guide the work to of using data to guide course redesign, measure the effectiveness of learning interventions, and support other efforts to become more data informed in our instructional design practice. The Learning Designer collaborates on committee work within USM and across the University of Maine system, and contributes to the broader goals and strategies for digitally enhanced learning at USM.

 

The Center for Technology Enhanced Learning supports the efforts of faculty, departments, and programs who want to develop digitally enhanced programs and courses. Learning Designers focus on high quality pedagogy in helping faculty develop courses and find new ways to enhance student learning and create community.  USM offers an array of degrees and certificate programs in fully online, blended, and classroom formats, and offers an increasing number of high quality online courses year-round.  For more information about instructional design at USM visit www.usm.maine.edu/ctel

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in education, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Experience designing online and blended courses in a higher education context.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to manage large and small projects successfully and independently.

 

License/Certifications:

  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

 

Preferred:

  • D. or Ed.D. in education, instructional design, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience working with faculty in a higher education environment to design courses in online and blended formats.
  • Online teaching experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with learning analytics and/or using data to guide assessment and continuous improvement
  • Experience supporting a learning management system.
  • Project management aptitude, experience.
