Summary:
Utah Valley University, located in Orem, UT invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mechatronics Engineering Technology to begin January 2018. The successful candidate will teach Mechatronics Engineering Technology courses, direct course projects, create innovative instructional materials, and supervise extracurricular activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution a Master’s or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.
Ten or more years relevant industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong background in the design of industrial automation processes and systems consisting of the following areas: statics, dynamics, property and strength of materials, fluid power, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, product design, prototyping methods, polymers and composites.
  • Demonstrates experience and background in the following areas: thermodynamics, mechanical design elements and kinematics, electric machines and electric power, CAM, 2-D and 3-D CAD including Solidworks.
  • Basic knowledge in the areas of electronics and electrical systems that relate to Mechatronics.
  • Advanced knowledge of subject matter and course content of the courses to be taught which include courses in emphasizing both theory and practice.
    Topics include PLC’s, CNC machines, industrial robots, sensors, ladder logic, HMI, networking, PID, vision systems, system analysis, motors, controllers, pneumatic, and polymers.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques, student management, motivation, evaluation and assessment of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation, current trends in technical education, cooperative work experience programs, and student recruitment.
  • Experience with 2 + 2 college / university technology programs.
  • Understanding of Engineering Technology and the role and necessity of hands-on course labs.
  • Experience with supervision of undergraduate industrial orientated research projects.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Skills in setting up and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical hardware.
  • Ability to construct and test prototypes.
  • Emphasis in the industrial mechanical elements of Mechatronic systems (statics & strength of materials - forces, torque, equilibrium, stress, etc.)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the 2+2 College/University technology programs is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to teach in a classroom and lab setting.
