The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the fastest growing institution in the UNC System accounting for 61 percent of the total System growth over the past seven years, seeks a Director for the School of Nursing, one of four academic units in the College of Health and Human Services. UNC Charlotte, North Carolina’s urban research university (www.uncc.edu), has an enrollment of more than 29,000 students including 5,400 graduate students enrolled in 64 master's and 23 doctoral programs, and a faculty and staff of over 3,000.

Charlotte is a thriving and vibrant metropolitan center, with a 10-county metropolitan statistical area population approximating 2.3 million. It is a major banking center, and boasts two major hospital systems one of which is the nation’s 3rd largest public nonprofit healthcare system. The region offers a diverse population, an enviable array of artistic and cultural offerings, thriving professional sports franchises, and an excellent year-round climate. This twelve month position is expected to begin July 1, 2018.

The School of Nursing: The School of Nursing, which was named by the National League of Nurses as a 2016 Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, serves 394 undergraduate students in its BSN and the RN to BSN programs, and another 249 students in its MSN, certificate, and DNP graduate programs. These programs are supported by an enthusiastic team of over 30 full time faculty members, including one distinguished professor. The School has its home in a state-of-the art building where three of the four units in the College, Nursing, Public Health Sciences and Social Work, are co-located.

Qualifications: A successful candidate must be eligible for licensure in NC, hold a doctorate degree in Nursing or related area, and be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor. The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a strong record of academic excellence and professional accomplishment, as well as successful administrative experience. In addition, they must have experience in curriculum development, and a commitment to interdisciplinary research, education and community engagement. It is essential that this administrator understand the critical value that empowering teams has on organizational success, and be able to nurture and communicate a vision for the School successfully to all constituents. The individual should be creative and forward thinking and not be afraid to “roll up their sleeves.” Other desirable characteristics include an understanding of population health/community health; the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, student body and community; experience in recruiting, supporting, and retaining faculty; ability to promote nursing research, education and service; experience in program evaluation and accreditation; evidence of building external partnerships and a willingness to fund raise.
