Lehigh University seeks an experienced and innovative admissions
leader and strategist to serve as its next Vice Provost for
Admissions and Financial Aid (VP). This is a remarkable moment in
the history of Lehigh: in October, 2016, President John Simon
launched a bold and ambitious plan for the University, which
includes a series of sweeping, decisive steps to propel Lehigh
forward. This plan, unanimously endorsed by the Board of Trustees,
will bring important and lasting change to Lehigh, including
significant growth in undergraduate and graduate student
enrollment, the recruitment of 100 new faculty, the establishment
of a new college of health, the construction of new academic
buildings and student housing, and the renovations of buildings and
facilities all across campus. The Vice Provost will have the
tremendous opportunity to craft and shape a vision for strategic
student recruitment of the largest classes in Lehigh’s history.
Over the last decade, Lehigh has significantly increased the
diversity of its student body and has a deep commitment to further
growing the percentage of first generation college students. In
December, 2016, Lehigh joined 29 colleges and universities in the
American Talent Initiative (ATI), supported by Bloomberg
Philanthropies, with a commitment to enrolling and supporting
lower-income students at institutions with the highest graduation
rates. Within the plan for growth Lehigh will continue to seek
outstanding students, and especially those who will continue to
increase the diversity of the student community.
In the coming decade, Lehigh’s goal is to build on its success as a
premier residential research university, internationally recognized
for research excellence and a distinctive student experience.
Lehigh is well positioned to provide a unique higher education
experience by combining a research university with a
student-centered residential college. It is distinctive in having
both a campus setting and core strengths similar to a liberal arts
college, as well as strong programs in business, engineering,
sciences, and education. The University ranks highly nationally,
and competes vigorously, with the most academically distinguished
universities for innovative programming, path-breaking scholarship,
and excellent students, faculty and staff. At this time of
ambitious growth and transformation, Lehigh seeks an innovative and
transformative leader to serve as an active and trusted partner of
the President and the Provost in shaping the new Lehigh.
The VP is responsible for managing the Offices of Admissions and
Financial Aid and the Enrollment Services Center, with a total of
about 40 professional and support staff members and an operating
budget of approximately $1 million. The VP works closely with a
variety of campus and external organizations and, in particular,
advises the Enrollment Management Committee (EM) as it develops
admissions policy for the campus. Under the direction of Deputy
Provost for Academic Affairs, the VP will join in efforts to
increase student retention and graduation rates. The VP reports to
the Provost, working closely with the President, Vice Provost for
Student Affairs, Deans, faculty leadership, and other senior
executives across the campus.
The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated knowledge of
the major elements of and current best practices in successful
programs for admissions and financial aid management, and an
in-depth understanding of student market trends and prospect
development. Candidates must also possess excellent analytical,
communication, and interpersonal skills, be committed to the
University’s values of excellence and dedication to diversity, and
be prepared to join academic and administrative colleagues in
maintaining the high quality of education for its students while
moving the institution forward in national and international
prominence.
