Union College is hiring an actively publishing fiction writer for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (or advanced standing for suitable candidates). The candidate is expected to teach workshops in fiction, courses in contemporary fiction, fiction sections of the English Department's introduction to literature course, and the college's First-Year Preceptorial. Applicants must be committed to both excellent teaching and writing. We are also interested in candidates who can contribute courses in support of Union's interdisciplinary programs. Increasing diversity on campus is a critical priority for Union, one that is integral to our mission of preparing students for a globally interconnected world. Our goal is not only to increase diversity, but to support a diverse environment in which people from varied backgrounds can succeed and thrive. As such, we welcome applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. Applicants are encouraged to state in their cover letter how they will enhance the diversity of offerings and educational experiences if hired.
Union College is an equal opportunity employer and strongly
committed to student and workforce diversity. Union provides a
blend of intellectual, social and cultural opportunities to
facilitate the integrated academic, social and personal development
of a diverse community. We value and are committed to diverse
populations and cultures including, but not limited to, those based
on race, religion, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation,
gender, gender identity, national origin and veteran status.
Candidates must hold an MFA or the equivalent in fiction writing
and have published at least three stories in two or more literary
journals or a book in the last five years. The application must
include a writing sample of no more than twenty-five pages, which
may include short stories or a section from a longer work. Send
letter of application outlining experience, areas of teaching
interest, and publications, as well as CV and writing sample to
Bernhard Kuhn, Chair, English Department at egldept@union.edu. Please send all
materials in a single PDF file. Three letters of recommendation
should be sent under a separate cover to the same email address.
Applications will be accepted until October 20th, 5 PM EST.
Interviews will be conducted at the MLA in NYC in January,
2018.
