Faculty Position
Department of Materials Science and Engineering

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) seeks candidates for a tenured or tenure track faculty position to begin July 2018 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Faculty duties include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, research, and supervision of student research. With the opening of MIT’s new MIT.nano central facility for materials synthesis and characterization, DMSE is seeking research leadership in the area of materials characterization. Appointments at all levels from Assistant Professor up to tenured Full Professor are possible for the present position.

MIT has a number of Institute-wide initiatives under way or in development, on topics that include Manufacturing, Energy, Environment, Health, and Data. Individuals who can connect to these initiatives are of interest.

Requirements:
• A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field
• Deep knowledge of the core of advanced materials characterization, including development and deployment of new and high-resolution methods in microscopy, diffraction, spectroscopy, in situ and in operando techniques for inorganic and organic materials

Interested candidates may apply online at http://dmsefacsrch.mit.edu.

Each application should include: a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, a statement of teaching interests, and a statement of experience in collaborative materials research facilities and leadership. We request that each candidate arrange for 3 letters of reference to be uploaded at http://dmsefacsrch.mit.edu/letters/.

Questions should be addressed to DMSE-Search-Master@dmsefacsrch.mit.edu.

Applications will be evaluated as they are received, with fullest consideration given to those received by October 31, 2017.

We especially encourage minorities and women to apply because of MIT’s strong commitment to diversity in engineering, education, research and practice.
