POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Social Science and Cultural Studies at Pratt Institute seeks an interdisciplinary scholar for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate professor position on the Global South, available Fall 2018. Qualified candidates include those who employ transnational approaches to cultural, social, or historical studies which focus on social movements, forms of resistance, feminisms, or non-western, experimental and/or queer knowledge formations. Scholars should demonstrate expertise within south-north south-south, or south/east contexts, transits, and/or geographies. A strong demonstrated record of publishing, teaching, and service are required.

Located in the historic Clinton Hill neighborhood and nestled within an art and design school, our department's commitment to cognitive and social justice is palpable. We host a major in Critical and Visual Studies and minors in History, Sustainability, Social Justice/Social Practice, Music and Sound Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender and Sexuality, Psychology, and Philosophy. We are also looking to develop an interdisciplinary Master's program. Faculty and student research interests and activities are organized within the new Global South Center that is hosted by Social Science and Cultural Studies. Our department is characterized by a commitment to interdisciplinary critique, intellectual dialogue, the importance of the arts, and by scholars whose work is engaged with social, local, and planetary justice. Devoted to a creative learning community, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches, and experiences.

Research and teaching could be anchored to communities of color within critical area studies that engage with and extend existing paradigms in African, Latin America, Middle Eastern, East Asian, South Asian, or Southeast Asian Studies. Comparative, qualitative, and decolonial research is welcome.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Full-time teaching load is the equivalent of three courses each fall and spring semester.
* Advise students.
* Participate in curriculum development.
* Participate in related departmental activities including special projects.
* Engage in scholarly production and other professional activities.
* Engage with a diverse faculty and student body.
* Serve on Institute, School and department committees.
* Perform all other related activities as required.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. and demonstrated strong teaching record required.

Salary and Rank are commensurate with experience.
