Methodology
The Department of Educational Studies in the College of
Education at Purdue University is seeking a Visiting Assistant
Professor in Educational Measurement and Research Methodology. The
position can begin as early as January 3, 2018.
Purdue University’s College of Education and Department of
Educational Studies is committed to advancing diversity in all

Responsibilities and opportunities:
The
Visiting Assistant Professor will also be expected to engage in
professional service/engagement activities in areas of interest.
There will be a variety of opportunities to collaborate on research
activities with faculty and students within and outside of the
College of Education.
Possible courses to teach include:
UG
Assessment Literacy
The course, students will
build assessment literacy: the ability to gather accurate
information about student achievement, and use that information to
make instructional decisions that will improve learning. Course
activities will focus on assessment tasks relevant to P- 12
classroom settings.
Master’s
Introduction to Measurement and
Evaluation
An introduction to the basic
concepts and principles of measurement. Students will be able to:
1. Explain fundamental concepts and terminology in educational
measurement. 2. Evaluate existing measurement instruments and score
uses. 3. Contribute to development of instruments for measuring
educational outcomes. An introductory course in educational
research methodology that considers the various methods of
educational research, the formulation of research hypotheses, and
the preparation of research reports.
Master’s
Introduction to Educational Research I
: Methodology
This course is designed to provide
an overview of introductory statistics in education. The topics to
be covered in this course include data collection and description,
normal distributions, sampling distributions, methods of
statistical estimation and inference to compare means, correlation,
simple linear regression analysis, and chi-square test.
Master’s
Introduction to Quantitative Data Analysis
in Ed. Research I
This course is designed to provide
an overview of introductory statistics in education. The topics to
be covered in this course include data collection and description,
normal distributions, sampling distributions, methods of
statistical estimation and inference to compare means, correlation,
simple linear regression analysis, and chi-square test.
Master’s
Introduction to
Quantitative Data Analysis in Ed. Research
II
This is the second course of the statistics
sequence in education. The course covers various types of ANOVA,
and multiple regression.
Doctoral
Research Procedures in Education
Development
of a philosophy of educational research and consideration of the
methods for the selection and evaluation of techniques used in
educational research. Techniques discussed are methods to control
variables, sampling procedures, data collection procedures,
statistical procedures, and research proposal development and
writing.
The Visiting Assistant Professor will be expected to teach at
least three graduate or undergraduate courses in educational
measurement, evaluation, and/or quantitative methodology per
semester. The course load is negotiable, depending on the
applicant’s expertise and interests.
Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in educational statistics, measurement, quantitative psychology, learning analytics, or a related field from an AACSB-International accredited or equivalent institution Evidence of potential for quality graduate teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of potential for teaching excellence and instructional innovation in the areas of research methodology, measurement, or quantitative methods in social science.
• Evidence of contribution, through their research and/or teaching, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
