FAU Harbor Branch, a FAU research excellence pillar for Ocean and Environmental Science & Technology and the FAU Wilkes Honors College (WHC), in Jupiter Florida, seek candidates for a joint appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a research background in, but not limited to, the biogeochemistry of marine nutrient cycling, carbon transformations, natural products, microbial interactions, biofilms, and a broad interest in biological oceanography, marine ecology, marine microbiology and microbiomes. 

The candidate will have their primary office and research laboratory at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI), located in Fort Pierce Florida, with an additional office in the Wilkes Honors College. The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment in the Wilkes Honors College, and will teach two undergraduate honors courses per year, as well as supervise undergraduate honors theses. At HBOI, the candidate has the opportunity to teach graduate courses and will be expected to supervise graduate research. 

We seek candidates who will enjoy, and by nature maintain, the collaborative and interdisciplinary cultures established by the scientists and engineers at HBOI and the liberal arts and sciences faculty of the WHC. The successful candidate will foster innovation and excellence across FAU, and with local, national, and international partners, and develop new understanding and strategies, technologies, or products that will lead to stewardship and wise use of the oceans and coastal habitats. As part of FAU's overall strategic plan "Race to Excellence," Florida Atlantic University has identified Ocean and Environmental Science & Technology as an area of research strength. Research under this umbrella is coordinated at HBOI and seeks close collaboration with research programs on the Jupiter, Boca Raton, Davie, Dania Beach, and Fort Lauderdale campuses. 

This position includes a generous start up package and new lab and office space. 

 

Qualifications:

 

The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate in oceanography, biogeochemistry, microbiology, or a closely related discipline at the time of application. 

Applications are sought from individuals with excellent teaching and research/publication records and demonstrated potential to lead a strong, extramurally-funded research program. It is preferred that applicants whose research includes stable isotope studies of carbon-nutrient transformation and/or those that employ molecular biology and "omics" approaches in their research. The successful candidate should have a strong research network and be poised to take advantage of collaborations with other academic and corporate institutions. 

A strong track record of exemplary teaching and mentoring is preferred. At a minimum, the Wilkes Honors College expects the successful candidate for this position to be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to, the national reform agenda for undergraduate STEM education. 

A strong publication record required. 

Well-funded, active research program, commensurate with their level of experience. 

Skills in leadership and mentoring, and the ability to work cooperatively with University and extramural partners on research that addresses contemporary and emerging issues in ocean science as it relates to climate change.
