POSITION: Assistant Professor of Global and Comparative History

The CSU Monterey Bay School of Social, Behavioral, and Global Studies is an interdisciplinary department comprised of faculty from a variety of disciplines, including Anthropology, Archaeology, Geography, Social History, Political Economy, Native American Studies, Social Psychology, Sociology, and Religious and Global Studies. We currently seek to hire a tenure track Assistant Professor of History who shares our commitment to a diverse multicultural student community through teaching, research, professional application, and service. We invite applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Global and Comparative History scheduled to begin fall 2018.
The successful candidate will teach world history survey courses and develop upper-division offerings in her/his specialty, and will demonstrate the capacity to address teaching, research, professional application, and service obligations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-centered and outcomes-based pedagogies, and an ability to teach and interact with culturally and linguistically-diverse student populations. Candidates will demonstrate a capacity, or willingness, to engage instructional delivery via new and effective technology-based applications and/or strategies. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an ongoing program of comparative historical studies, scholarly application, and peer-reviewed publication as an expectation of tenure and promotion. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to service, including contributions in the areas of curriculum development and assessment, academic advising, faculty development, capstone mentoring, and other shared faculty responsibilities, including campus and/or departmental committee assignments and service. Moreover, the successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the California K-12 teacher preparation content requirements in World History, and the ability to advise students in the History/Social Science Teacher Preparation Track.

QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM)
History Ph.D. from a college or university accredited by the US
Department of Education or other internationally-recognized
accrediting institution. ABDs will be given consideration granted
substantive evidence is presented to document the imminent
completion of the Ph.D. by the fall 2018 start date. Additionally,
the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a track
record and/or strong potential for scholarly publication and/or
funded research.
Successful applicants must address the ability to work with
culturally and/or linguistically-diverse populations. Moreover,
this position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a
background check.
QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRABLE)
- Ability to teach historical methods, comparative and world history.
- Knowledge of California K-12 History/Social Science Content Standards/World History.
- Higher education teaching experience.
- Scholarly publication and/or grantsmanship.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The person holding this position is considered a “mandated
reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting
Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in
CSU Executive
Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
The incumbent is required to maintain confidentiality as outlined
in the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and
Privacy and California’s Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding
sensitive student issues.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be
completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a
position within the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the

continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the
position.
