The Department of Economics at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Chair, effective August, 2018. We are seeking an accomplished academician to provide leadership and energy to guide the continued growth and development of the Department. The successful candidate must be committed to undergraduate education and present a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service that warrants an appointment with tenure.  Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Industrial Organization or Applied Macroeconomics. The nominal teaching load for the appointment is 2-2. The Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field is required at time of application.  Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.

The Department of Economics at Christopher Newport University is composed of  9 full time faculty who enjoy an atmosphere of collegiality and mutual respect that rewards outstanding teaching and fosters active intellectual and creative engagement.  The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics (with an optional concentration in mathematical economics) and a minor in economics. Our faculty integrates the liberal arts with the core functional areas of economics and the quantitative competencies needed to address important economic and public policy challenges. Department faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who emphasize high-quality classroom instruction informed by their research and professional activities.

The Fall 2017 freshman class of 1,290 students was selected from over 7,000 admission applications, and presented average high school GPA and SAT scores of 3.8 and 1210, respectively.
