THE SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM AND BROADCASTING Housed in the Potter College of Arts & Letters, the School of Journalism & Broadcasting (SJ&B) supports nearly 600 students in four academic programs: Broadcasting, Film, Journalism and Photojournalism. The School was re-accredited in 2016 by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. The SJ&B is one of only seven Programs of Distinction in Kentucky. This designation enhances the mission of the School and provides resources for the Center for 21st Century Media. The Center includes the School, the Continuing Media Education Institute and the Kentucky High School Media Institute. Twenty-four of the School's alumni and faculty have been part of 16 Pulitzer prizes. SJ&B features a student-run radio station and professional television and photography studios. Students are afforded extracurricular opportunities including our award-winning student newspaper, yearbook, newscast and the Emmy Award-winning public television station and public radio network. The School is also home to a fast-growing film program focused on narrative film-making with full production and post-production facilities. The School is located in Mass Media and Technology Hall, an $18.4 million facility opened in 2003 - where students have access to state-of-the-art facilities including seven multimedia labs, a gallery and a 275-seat auditorium.
