The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures invites applications for a position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of French to begin in the fall of 2018. We are looking for a specialist in Medieval French literature (Ancien and/or Moyen Français) with interests in Manuscript Studies and history of the French language. Possible secondary interests or specializations might include the digital humanities, Occitan, or Anglo-Norman. The position will offer opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarly collaboration and pedagogical initiatives within the department of Romance Languages and in connection with Notre Dame's Medieval Institute. A strong commitment to scholarship, teaching, and institutional citizenship is essential.

Native or near-native proficiency in French and English is essential.Ideally, the candidate will have experience teaching literature and culture at the university level andwill have thePh.D. in hand at the time of hire.The teaching load is three courses one semester and two the next (or vice versa given the needs of the department) at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.Notre Dame offers highly competitive salary and benefits, generous research support, and excellent opportunities for professional development.
