Faculty Position in Pastoral Care

Duke University Divinity School seeks to make a faculty appointment in pastoral care, effective July 1, 2018. Applications are sought from persons with outstanding academic and professional expertise in the care and nurture of individuals and Christian communities, and who demonstrate a commitment to theological education and theological scholarship. The candidate appointed to this position will assist in the formation of future pastors and exhibit an active trajectory of scholarly research and writing. The appointed candidate will be expected to teach in both in the Divinity School’s master’s degree programs and at the doctoral level, in both residential and hybrid formats.

The position is targeted for the tenure-track or mid-career level. Precise faculty rank and salary will be set according to qualifications and experience. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a clinical discipline such as psychology (or a closely related field), or a Ph.D. or Th.D. in pastoral theology (or a related field), with significant experience as a clinician, chaplain, or pastoral counselor. A master’s degree in a theological discipline, preferably the M.Div., is required and ordination is preferred.
