Georgetown University

Department of Health Systems Administration

Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Health Systems Administration invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level from candidates with expertise in population health and health services research who will contribute to the department’s research and educational programs.  The ideal candidate will have an active research portfolio in population health and will be qualified to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in epidemiology, health services research, and/or research methods.

The successful candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary department with 11 primary faculty members and a rapidly growing and wide-ranging portfolio of scholarly interests in population health and healthcare management and policy, including epidemiology, health finance, health services research, health economics, infectious disease policy, quality improvement, leadership, long-term care, and global health.  Based in the oldest Catholic, Jesuit University in the United States, the Department of Health Systems Administration offers an undergraduate major in Healthcare Management and Policy and graduate degrees in Health Systems Administration.  Both fully-accredited programs emphasize a population health focus to healthcare, a critical thinking approach to health systems management, and the need for future leaders to be grounded in professional values and responsive to the common good. The department is a focal point for population health research and teaching within Georgetown University Medical Center and the university more broadly.

Strong opportunities for research collaboration exist with MedStar Health, one of the largest health care systems on the East Coast, which includes Georgetown University Hospital as well as hospitals and healthcare businesses in the Baltimore/Washington area. Departmental faculty lead a joint Georgetown University Medical Center-MedStar initiative on population health, and Georgetown has university-wide research initiatives in global health, health disparities, and environmental health.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in health services research, epidemiology, health economics, management sciences, or a related field and strong research expertise, including competency in advanced research methods, statistical techniques, or other study designs commonly used in health services research, epidemiology, social sciences, economics, or related fields. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should demonstrate strong potential for high research productivity eventually leading to tenure, including a record of high-quality publication. Applicants at the Associate Professor level should have a record of significant extramural research support and a publication record over the last 5-7 years sufficient to earn tenure.  All applicants should be qualified to teach in one or both of the department’s degree programs.

Send a CV with a list of references, a letter detailing your qualifications and research agenda, and a sample of your scholarly work to:
