Summary:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Head of Business, Social Sciences and Education leads a subject specialist librarians unit in the exploring, planning, delivering, assessing and continuous refinement of forward-looking services. Seeks out teaching and research partnerships in support of students and faculty in business and the social sciences in a rapidly evolving university environment. Provides leadership, vision and initiative for embedding unit members in the discipline specific programs of the university. Fosters an environment that promotes exploration and implementation of new approaches to reference, research, instruction, and outreach services. Guides development of unit members by identifying priorities in light of evolving information technologies, professional practice, library-wide strategic initiatives and University academic programs. Monitors, supervises, and evaluates unit members. Coordinates with Collections Unit Leader to ensure development of collections in business and the social sciences. Collaborates with Heads of the Arts, Humanities & Media and STEM Units, as well as the Learning and Student Success Unit Leader, for the strategic integration of library services into the curriculum in support of student academic success. Collaborates with Communication and Outreach Administrator to promote library services and coordinates outreach to the academic community. With other unit leaders, coordinates policies and activities of the Academic Engagement and Service Delivery group with those of other University Libraries (UL) units and with established UL objectives. Contributes to the formulation of Libraries-wide policies and procedures and to the definition of goals and priorities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree and 5 years post-MLS experience in an academic or research library system including supervisory and reference experience. An academic degree in business or the social sciences or prior experience with liaison services and collection development in a related discipline. 2 years demonstrated experience leading and supervising professional librarians providing research, instructional and liaison services.

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Knowledge of contemporary research and instruction practices in research libraries.

*Excellent oral and written communication skills.

*Evidence of ongoing professional growth and awareness of current/emerging trends in librarianship.

*Strong customer service orientation; understanding of user experience methods; ability to motivate others to deliver excellent customer service.
*Ability to work within a collaborative environment in a research university setting, and a cross functional team-based environment in a library.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

*Evidence of strong planning and project management skills.
