In searches for Assistant Professors, exceptional candidates at higher ranks may, in some cases, be considered. Candidates must present evidence of scholarly or creative productivity and must show evidence of dedication to effective teaching. Expected start date: as early as Aug. 18, 2018. A Ph.D., ABD, or terminal degree is expected by the start date of the appointment. Preferred candidates would contribute to the climate of diversity in the College, including a diversity of scholarly approaches. SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

The School of Engineering is comprised of six academic departments and additional interdisciplinary programs, offering 12 ABET-accredited undergraduate degree programs and graduate  degrees in 17 fields of study. The school currently employs 127 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including National Academy members. The School of Engineering is in the midst of one of its largest growth periods in its history. Enrollment last year included 2,433 undergraduates, 440 masters, and 223 doctoral students. Since 2012, new research and teaching facilities added more than 180,000 square feet to the engineering complex. The School of Engineering now seeks seven new faculty members in the areas of:

  • Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering (2) — Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in Water Quality, Open ranks, (00003938); Water Resources Engineering, Assistant Professor (00003933)
  • Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (4) — Computer Engineering, Assistant Professor (01198545); Communications Systems, Assistant Professor (00003997); Metamaterials & Nano-photonics, Assistant Professor, (2228000); Theoretical Computer Science, Assistant Professor (00004004); the ability to possess and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government is preferred for these four positions.
  • Mechanical Engineering (1) — Chairperson (Full Professor rank).

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WELFARE

The School of Social Welfare seeks dynamic candidates for tenure-track appointments of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor for Fall 2018. We are seeking candidates who will
contribute to the School’s vision of transformational social work education and research in an environment dedicated to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The KU School of Social Welfare is housed on the University of Kansas Lawrence campus offering B.S.W., M.S.W., and Ph.D. programs. We also offer complete B.S.W. and M.S.W. programs at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City, as well as the Western Kansas M.S.W. program on the Fort Hays State University campus and Garden City Community College campus. The School of Social Welfare seeks candidates in the following areas:

  • Assistant Professor with a viable agenda for scholarship in the areas of aging, health, or disabilities; however, candidates with a strong research agenda in child welfare, poverty, or adult/child mental health will be considered (00005512). 
  • Associate Professor with a national reputation in the field and a well-developed research agenda in one of the following broadly defined areas: aging, health, disabilities, child welfare,poverty, or adult/child mental health (00005513).
