Assistant Professor in Asian Media

The School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank on Asian Media and Asian languages. The appointment will begin July 2018 and it will carry a 2/2 teaching load.

The successful candidate will hold a joint position at the Department of Communication and the Asian Studies Program. The Department of Communication specializes in the interdisciplinary and critical study of media, technology, and transnational communication. We are especially interested in qualified applicants whose research addresses Asian or Asian American media/communication and their intersection with race, ethnicity, gender and/or class. We encourage scholars who can teach Service Learning courses to apply.

The Asian Studies Program provides students with a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of Asian cultures and languages with a primary focus on China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The successful candidate should possess the ability and willingness to teach one Asian language course (preferably Chinese or Japanese) per academic year and one seminar in English about a topic related to Asia and/or Asian Americans. Language teaching experience is preferred.

Qualified candidates for this position will hold a PhD degree in Communication, Media Studies, Asian Studies or a related field by May 2018.
