Responsibilities:

The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications is an integral member of the African-American Institute team whose goal is to facilitate access, retention and successful graduation of African-American students at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Student Leadership and Global Engagement, the role of The Program Manger of Student Outreach and Communications will be to create, develop and sustain strategies for an environment in which the opportunities for African American student development and success are increased.

The Program Manger of Student Outreach and Communications will create, plan, initiate, and implement programs, projects and/or events that will assist Northeastern University African American student groups, organizations, and other students in acclimating themselves to life in college and beyond by integrating developmental, academic, social and cultural aspects into their college experience. The Program Manger of Student Outreach and Communications will be charged with outreaching to students and drawing them to Institute activities, initiatives and events.

The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will be responsible for three major functions within the JDOAAI. First, The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will be responsible for the JDOAAI's social media, digital and print marketing initiatives. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communication will establish a vision and plan for the use of social media at the JDOAAI, with a specific focus of engaging students and developing leadership skill-sets and campus involvement. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communication will oversee and manage the JDOAAI's social media platforms and website. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will also be responsible for the creation and coordination of a monthly-digital newsletter for students, staff, and faculty, highlighting JDOAAI programs as well as monthly monthly-digital newsletter for alumni connected to the JDOAAI. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will also collaborate with JDOAAI staff to coordinate the creation of office brochures and marketing materials.

Second, The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will maintain broad and varied responsibility for supporting the growth of students of color, and underrepresented minorities at Northeastern. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will serve as a point of contact and campus liaison for major NU student initiatives within the JDOAAI, Student Affairs and beyond. In addition, The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will have responsibility for coordinating the Martin Luther King Graduate Fellowship Program, including responding to questions regarding the fellowship, organizing application materials for the Director's review, and scheduling applicant interviews. The program Manager for Student Outreach and Communications will also have responsibility for outreaching to upper-class (fourth and fifth students) to ensure they have adequate resources and opportunities which support their transition out of NU. The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications will also maintain a comfortable and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty who utilize the space, including overseeing and managing the Institute's technology, and the overall facilities function in the Cabral Center, the second floor Study Space, and the Student Center.

Third, The Program Manager of Outreach and Communications will also work closely with the Associate Director to plan and coordinate the Institute's annual signature programs. These signature programs include the JDOAAI's Open House, Kwanzaa, MLK Celebration, Black History month activities, the Oratory Competition, and the Baccalaureate Ceremony.

Qualifications:

The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications must be able to represent the Institute in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. A master’s degree required along with two-three years in higher education, preferably with management responsibilities in student affairs. Familiarity with technology required such as word press and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and printers, fax machines, and desktop computers. Skill sets in graphic design preferred. Candidates with experience in working on issues related to diversity and inclusion, especially as it relates to African Diaspora communities, and the intersections of various identities, such as race, ethnicity, gender, class, citizenship status, and sexuality preferred. Experience in advising, with a focus on exposing students to academic, professional, and leadership opportunities in higher-education and beyond also preferred. A flexible schedule is essential, as the position requires evening and some weekend work. Additionally, The Program Manager of Student Outreach and Communications must be an innovative and creative thinker, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, foster partnerships across the University, work collaboratively with various constituencies, as well as create a warm, pleasant and welcoming environment for students.
