Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish faculty position in the Department of Foreign Languages, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Assignments for this position will consist of a 3/3 teaching load, consistent Research/Creative Activity, and Professional Service at the department, college, and/or university level. Other tasks include: assisting with the development of the curriculum, supporting and implementing a recruitment plan, supervising internships, and facilitating extra-curricular activities. Commitment to excellence in teaching, strong scholarship, and engagement is expected of all faculty members in KSU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

 

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

  • Completed Ph.D. in Spanish with at least 18 graduate hours in Cultural Studies, Linguistics
    (Theoretical or Applied) and/or Literature of any period or genre, or the foreign equivalent.
    Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
  • Evidence of success in proficiency-based instruction and assessment, as well as facilitation of skill development in Hispanic cultures, language, and/or literatures.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish as well as in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a faculty member within the DFL.

 

With over 30 full-time and more than 40 part-time faculty members, the DFL houses a B.A. degree program in Modern Language and Culture in five languages (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish) and four concentrations (Second language and culture, Teacher certification in foreign languages, Applied business, and Cross-disciplinary perspectives). In addition to offering Minors in the primary languages of the Modern Language and Culture major, we also offer Minors in Classical Studies, European Studies, and Lusophone Studies, and we offer regular instruction in Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Latin, and two other languages via the Critical Languages Program. The DFL offers a non-degree Alternative Teacher Preparation Program leading to certification in Chinese, French, German, Latin, Japanese, and Spanish. Furthermore, as a distinctive characteristic, DFL faculty and students are engaged in the community and beyond including initiatives related to teaching-learning, service, and research, which are often facilitated via service-learning, internships, and study abroad opportunities.
