Communication and Technology, Open Rank Faculty Position

Department of Communication

Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information

The Department of Communication seeks an assistant, associate, full, or distinguished professor in the Communication and Technology area for Fall 2018. Applications from junior scholars are encouraged.  We welcome applications from scholars conducting theory-driven research that addresses real-world problems. Ideal candidates will place technology at the forefront of their investigations into how those innovations are changing communication processes and contexts. Our full-time faculty span a wide range of empirical approaches in their research, and we welcome applications from quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods scholars.

We seek candidates whose scholarship intersects with, and extends, one or more of the department’s other research foci: health communication, interpersonal communication, language and social interaction, and organizational communication. We are particularly interested in communication and technology scholars working in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital inequalities in marginalized groups and contexts
  • Privacy, surveillance, and transparency
  • Technology and organizational change
  • Technology in health or interpersonal contexts

We look forward to welcoming a new colleague who will also contribute to our thriving undergraduate and masters programs, as well as our highly-regarded, interdisciplinary school-wide Ph.D. program.

Rutgers University's School of Communication and Information houses a dynamic and engaged community of scholars whose fields of communication, information science, library studies, journalism, and media studies intersect to address contemporary challenges related to communication, information, and media. For more about the School and active faculty searches across our three departments, see: comminfo.rutgers.edu.

Geographically adjacent and closely connected to the world’s largest media and information hubs, and supported by Rutgers’ vibrant scholarly community, we embrace University goals of promoting diversity throughout our networks and programs.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field is expected as of June 2018. Applicants should have a demonstrated record or strong likelihood of top‐tier peer‐reviewed publication and evidence of or preparation for effective teaching. Senior‐level applicants should provide evidence of leadership in research, instruction, and service. A record of external funding is a plus.

Requirements

Responsibilities of tenure-track/tenured faculty members include undergraduate and graduate teaching assignments in communication, an active program of research in the candidate’s area of scholarly expertise, and service contributions in accordance with the university policy for tenure‐track and tenured appointments.
