The Assistant Learning Designer supports the design, production, implementation, management, and evaluation of online and digital projects in the Office of Global Initiatives. This is a junior level position suitable for individuals with combined academic training and experience in education, writing, media content production and/or relevant projects looking to explore a new opportunity in instructional design and online educational content.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assist faculty and staff in the development, production,
execution, and evaluation of online content.
• Develop teaching materials such as syllabi, visual aids, rubrics,
supplementary notes, etc.
• Prepare content for print documents, web pages, digital
presentations, and graphics.
• Conduct research using online and print resources according to
appropriate methodological standards; seek copyright clearance as
needed.
• Manage online platforms and web sites; upload and update class
materials (such as documents, videos, quizzes, surveys, etc.) as
needed.
• Stay informed of platform and software updates and changes.
• Monitor and participate in online discussion forums; dialogue
directly with students in need of process or policy instructions;
notify staff or instructors of student satisfaction issues, errors
or problems with assignments, etc.
• Coordinate with production team, temporary staff and other
project stakeholders (Registrar, Facilities, schools/program
offices, institute production facilities) to ensure project
success.
• Oversee some program administrative tasks, such as ordering
faculty contracts, check requests for temporary staff, and
scheduling.
• Communicate essential registration information to the Office of
the Registrar.
• Respond to inquiries from prospective students and general
public
• Conduct research to support the development of new programs
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Experience with, or a willingness to learn and adapt to, various
digital education and storytelling platforms, web development
tools, and content and learning management systems.
• Expertise in writing strong, persuasive content for a variety of
contexts, such as web content as well as social media.
• Demonstrated ability to research and implement creative solutions
to technical problems.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize
and work independently or with a team.
• Ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making
progress without direct supervision
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, which
include a thorough command of the English language, spelling,
writing, and grammar and a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to interact effectively and build relationships with
students, faculty and staff.
• Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion in handling
confidential information.
• Must be able to respond swiftly, effectively, and in compliance
with FERPA and Title IX regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and
Google Drive.
• Capacity and willingness to learn new software, research methods,
and work routines quickly
• Must be willing to manage responsibilities and deadlines in an
environment of shifting priorities.
EDUCATION:
• Graduates of MA or MFA programs in education, writing, design,
media or visual arts programs preferred. BA or BFA graduates in
above fields considered.
• CalArts alumni preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum two years’ work experience in education, content editing,
media production, instructional design or related fields.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, consumer level video
editing software, and HTML syntax, elements and attributes an
asset.
• Expertise in any of the following areas: social media
functionality, web design and architecture, user-centric design,
analytics, copyright clearance.
• Personal arts practice or an appreciation for working in a
fast-paced, creative community an asset.
