Film and Media Arts – Film Studies

POSITION:Full-time tenure-track appointment in the department of Film and Media Arts. FMA seeks a scholar in Film Studies at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor with a specialization in global and/or diasporic cinema.

RANK/SALARY:Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track appointment in Film Studies. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, advise and mentor students, maintain a visible profile of research activity, and engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in film studies or a related discipline with a film studies or media theory dissertation, by time of appointment.  We are seeking scholars with a record of scholarly activity and a strong research agenda in non-Western or diasporic cinema, with a possible emphasis on transnational or cross-cultural film. Desired areas of specialization include African, African diaspora (including African-American), Latin American, and Asian cinema.

Candidates should be able to teach generalist classes in film analysis, theory, and history at a range of levels, from introductory to advanced, as well as courses in areas of their specialty. Preference will be given to those who can teach across the department's curriculum in film and media arts studies.

Applicants applying at the Associate or advanced Assistant Professor level (at least four years experience at a tenure-track position) will need five (5) letters; other applicants will need three (3) letters.

 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Film & Media Arts Department is an internationally recognized program in documentary, independent narrative, and experimental forms. The program encourages a cross-disciplinary mix of theory and practice including hybrid and digital arts production, and a history of producing socially conscious filmmakers. Film & Media Arts is a member of Temple’s Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts, which includes the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and the Boyer College of Music and Dance. It is located on the University’s main campus in the culturally rich and diverse city of Philadelphia.

Fall 2016 enrollment in Film and Media Arts is 600 students—560 undergraduate and 40 graduate students—served by 21 full-time and many affiliate faculty.
