 Position Summary: 

The K-12 Educational Administration Program at Michigan State University (education.msu.edu/ead/k12) invites candidates to apply for an assistant or associate professor tenure system position in the Department of  Educational Administration. The position is a 9-month appointment with an August 16, 2018 start date.

 The Department is part of a highly reputed College with research centers and initiatives addressing issues in educational leadership, school improvement, district and state level reform, urban education, educational policy, international education studies, measurement and assessment, and the scholarship of teaching. It houses a dynamic outreach center that links faculty with practitioners and policymakers across the state. We seek scholars committed to core issues in K-12 leadership and the improvement of school organizations and educational systems, particularly schools that have been historically underserved.

 Candidates are expected to contribute to the field through active research, publishing, and securing external funding. Duties also include collaborating with faculty and professional colleagues to shape high quality degree and outreach programs, teaching Master’s and Doctoral level courses (both face-to-face and online), and advising students, supervising doctoral research, and engaging in institutional and professional service.

 Candidates with experience working with initiatives, projects and centers that focus on improving the preparation of leaders in traditionally underserved schools and systems and school improvement are highly desirable. We seek individuals disposed to collaborate in delivering innovative master’s and doctoral programs and to engage with communities serving high-need schools in Michigan.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in education, educational administration or leadership, or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment. Candidates must have demonstrated an active interest in the field through research and scholarship in one or more of the following areas: educational leadership, urban education, and organizational theory/management.

 Desired Qualifications:

Desirable areas of specialization include: the influence of leadership on school organizations and policy implementation; culturally responsive leadership; school finance; evaluating educators and schools; and the achievement of underperforming and under-resourced schools. Candidates with experience bridging policy and practice are highly desirable. Advanced scholars should have a record of leadership in externally funded research projects and/or professional organizations.
