PROVOST & SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Utica College, founded in 1946 and located in the heart of
Central New York, seeks nominations and applications for the
position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Utica College seeks an exceptional leader with a strong record of
academic accomplishment to serve in this key leadership position
and partner effectively with the senior management team under
President Laura Casamento.
Distinguished for its integration of liberal and professional
studies, Utica College (UC) is a comprehensive private institution
serving a diverse community of approximately 5,000 full- and
part-time students from 45 states and 39 countries. UC offers 45
undergraduate and 20 graduate programs delivered on-campus through
facilities in Utica, Syracuse, and Florida, and online. In 2016,
the College won national recognition by taking the lead in
addressing college affordability through its tuition reset. UC’s
145 full-time and 325 part-time faculty have built a tradition of
excellence in teaching and learning with emphasis on providing
individual attention to the students we serve.
The City of Utica, New York has a population of 60,000 and is
located at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in the Mohawk
Valley region of upstate New York. The area offers easy access to a
broad variety of cultural attractions as well as four-season
recreation.
Reporting to the President, the Provost and Senior Vice President
for Academic Affairs (Provost & SVPAA) is the chief academic
officer, administering an academic budget of $3.5 million, with
responsibility for the faculty as well as the staff in Academic
Affairs and related administrative departments that support the
College’s academic program. In consultation with the faculty, the
Provost & SVPAA articulates and directs the academic vision of
the College, providing leadership to support and enhance the
College’s commitment to academic excellence, scholarly values, and
a strong liberal education integrated with professional study. He
or she is responsible for maintaining the quality of the academic
environment through the development and assessment of curriculum
and the facilitation of interdisciplinary teaching and research in
an increasingly diverse community of faculty, students, and staff.
The Provost & SVPAA advises the President on college-wide
planning, policy and operations, and acts on the President’s behalf
in her absence or as designated.
The Provost & SVPAA oversees the Office for Diversity and
Inclusion and will lead the charge for a variety of initiatives,
including a comprehensively redesigned approach to hiring an
increasingly diverse workforce - one that mirrors the richness in
diversity of the Utica area and Utica College’s student body. Utica
College is actively seeking and welcomes applications from
candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with
demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society.
To be considered, candidates must have an earned terminal degree
and have been awarded tenure with a distinguished record of
accomplishment in teaching, active scholarship, service, program
funding, and collaborative governance. The successful candidate
must demonstrate a commitment to the life of the mind, have
substantial higher education experience, a distinguished record of
progressively advanced administrative experience, and a
demonstrated responsibility for a broad range of organizational
areas including planning and assessment, institutional
effectiveness measures, strategic planning, faculty development,
operational and capital budgeting, human resource practices, and
information technology applications and trends. The successful
candidate will have outstanding written and oral communication
skills, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with diverse groups.
For full consideration, a letter of application, current curriculum
vitae, and five professional references, should be forwarded to the
