The Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for an assistant/associate rank search in Chicana/o Studies with a specialization in Education. Candidates are sought with strong research agendas examining the P-20 educational systems and utilizing methodologies emergent within Chicana/o Studies. The department seeks scholars with a strong community-based practice. These practices can manifest utilizing a range of methods including Community Based Participatory Research (CPBR), Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), decoloniality, indigeneity, holistic health/healing, feminist, queer and/or critical pedagogies. Candidates who have successfully engaged community contexts are encouraged to apply. These contexts can be a range of spaces where pedagogies are delivered.

 

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in delivering undergraduate and graduate level curriculum in Chicana/o Studies and/or Education with potential to teach emergent methodologies in the field of Chicana/o Studies. The department seeks scholars who have an interest in developing a new curricular track in Chicanx education. Chicana/o Studies is deeply invested in undergraduate education and is currently developing a graduate program. Successful candidates will be part of a collective effort to launch graduate education within Chicanx Studies. Ph.D. in Chicana/o Studies or related field must be completed by the first day of courses (September 24, 2018).

This position is funded through a UC Davis Hiring Investment Program effort. This position is one of two funded positions designed to create a cluster of faculty to develop links between the School of Education and the Chicana/o Studies Department. The second position is hired through the School of Education in a parallel search. These are separate positions that when hired will be expected to work together to bridge the School of Education faculty (SOE) to the Chicana/o Studies Department, developing curricular and programmatic collaborations.

The Chicana/o Studies Department is an interdisciplinary community of scholars that spans the social sciences, humanities, health, and arts, and who collaborate broadly with various centers and institutes focused on community-engaged approaches to manifest and promote social justice. The department operates several community based organizations and programs, including El Taller de Arte Nuevo Amanecer (TANA), the Center for Transnational Health and The Chicana/o Studies Bridge Program in Knights Landing.
