POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President for Campus Planning & Facilities Management (VP,CPFM) will provide strategic leadership for planning and design of the campus to support WPI's mission, vision and strategic plan. This role will play a critical role in developing a long-term vision for campus growth and implement innovative approaches to ensure that university facilities support WPI's educational mission and community. The role will oversee the efficient operational and financial performance of several areas including Campus Planning, Facilities Operations, Design and Construction and Environmental Health and Safety. In addition, the role will serve as a steward of the evolving physical campus providing leadership of transformation that supports all aspects of the value proposition of WPI. The VP,CPFM is a member of the President's Management Council.

The VP,CPFM will lead the planning, operation, maintenance, renovation, and construction of University buildings and grounds while ensuring a high level of satisfaction to community stakeholders.

Additionally, the role will support sustainability, energy management, real estate, and other physical plant infrastructure of the nearly 100 acre campus totaling approximately 2.6M SF of buildings, ensuring safe operations of these units and compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

The VP,CPFM leads the execution and evolution of the Campus Master Plan through the planning and design of all major construction, and the development/maintenance of a long-term campus environmental, space management and building development plan.

This role will manage and coach a team of diverse professionals (including members who serve under a collective bargaining agreement). The VP,CPFM will leverage and oversee department finances, equipment and relationships with external vendors and service providers to accomplish strategic and operational objectives, ensuring adherence to University policies and procedures.

The role will oversee operational and capital budgets directly related to facilities and will lead and drive focus on operational efficiency, productivity and customer service.

The VP,CPFM serves as the principle liaison to the campus community, including the President's Management Council and the Facilities and Campus Infrastructure Committee of the University Board of Trustees on relevant matters regarding campus planning and physical operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development of strategically integrated long-term capital plans consistent with funding priorities through a collaborative approach with the EVP & CFO and other key stakeholders.
  • Participate in and contribute to WPI's strategic planning efforts, providing information, analysis, and thoughtful, creative solutions to institutional challenges.
  • Exercise a high level of independent judgment and creative thought in the implementation of best practices in directing, planning, developing, and delivering services to the University.
  • Provide analytical support for critical questions involving potential growth of the campus (i.e., the impact of growth on necessary facilities).
  • Utilize expertise and data to support decisions regarding allocation of space, facility management, program planning and other needs.
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets; develop methods to monitor and analyze expenditures; negotiate purchases, contracts, and service agreements; ensure compliance with University finance and accounting standards.
  • Advancement of the University's diversity and inclusion efforts by developing a team culture of respect, professional growth, customer service and accountability. Serve as a strong organizational advocate for department and staff, representing their interests and needs with the campus community.
  • Support and provide leadership to campus sustainability efforts, integrating LEED and other approaches to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility.
  • Develop and implement departmental programs and initiatives including key performance metrics to assess effectiveness.
  • Develop effective working relationships with members of an increasingly diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, trustees, donors, and business partners.
  • Maintain effective relationships with professional colleagues at similar institutions to keep abreast of market developments and best-practices.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline.
  • A record of accomplishment in establishing a vision for facilities-management services and capital project delivery that advances the organization's mission, maximizes efficiency and return on investment, and demonstrates effective stewardship of assets.
  • At least 10 years' of progressively responsible and relevant experiences in campus planning, facilities management, development of capital programs, space management, and environmental health and safety programs and services for large high-volume/high-use education and research institutions, with at least 5 of those years in a senior leadership position.
  • Strong budget planning and management experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, campus planning, architecture, construction or facilities management.
  • Certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).
  • LEED Accredited Professional.
