Family Advocate

The Family Advocate works under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor at the partnering community health center as well as the Director of Urban Health Programs and Policy, the Program Coordinator (vacant) and the Clinical Consultant. The Family Advocate provides and coordinates domestic violence (DV) victim services, including crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, and education for DV victims, as well as consultation for service providers regarding patient care. Advocates provide ongoing outreach and participate in linking across service organizations of varied systems and disciplines to enhance services provided to victims of DV and their families in Dorchester and surrounding communities in Boston.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have a BSW/BA or equivalent background in Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, and Licensed. The position requires 0-2 years training in issues of family violence, and ability to teach this knowledge and skills to others. Four years’ work experience in community advocacy, community health, social work, public health,
or psychology practice, with experience in domestic violence intervention. Excellent direct service/clinical/support skills, with ability to provide services to adult victims of domestic violence, given appropriate clinical supervision. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams in community health care settings. Prefer advocates who have themselves survived domestic violence; a current or past resident of the health center’s service area; bilingual/bicultural candidates, with ability to speak Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Vietnamese.
