WK Advisors, a division of Witt Kieffer, has been retained to conduct the search for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead IT for a public, largely residential, four year teaching and research university nearly 13,000 students. Founded as a teachers' college in 1923, the university was named after one of Texas's founding fathers, Stephen F. Austin. Its campus resides on part of the homestead of Thomas Jefferson Rusk. Stephen F. Austin is one of four independent public universities in Texas.

The CIO will report directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and will serve as the designated Information Technology Manager for the university. The CIO will be responsible for overseeing the Information Technology Services (ITS) division for the university to ensure resources are being used effectively to further the university’s mission and strategic goals. This leader will be responsible for directing ITS including the project management office, enterprise resource planning system (Banner), telecommunications, networking, and technical support services. Additionally, the CIO will be responsible for using university goals and objectives to determine information system objectives and plans for these objectives with long-range results.

This position will require an understanding of the spectrum of IT activities, including technology infrastructure, academic and research computing, and administrative systems. Experience with successfully transitioning to and managing a centralized IT structure and sustaining a high performing operating model is needed. Overall, the CIO should have experience in leading the development of an IT strategic plan and its implementation in a complex institution.

The ideal candidate will have minimum of eight years significant senior level IT leadership experience preferably within a comprehensive, public university. Experience in higher education or Texas State agency information technology experience is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field is required and a master’s degree is preferred.

All nominations, expressions of interest, and discussions will be treated with strict confidence.  For more information, please contact us at SFACIO@wkadvisors.com.
