Job Summary

We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position:

The Student Rights and Responsibilities Director serves as the lead administrator for managing the university's educational and developmentally-based judicial and student conduct system. The Student Rights and Responsibilities unit administers and upholds the EWU Student Conduct Code and policies established by the university trustees.

The work of the Director is complex and requires knowledge of student affairs, student conduct, EWU policies and procedures, and federal/state/local laws and regulations. This position serves as a key campus resource in policy interpretation and regulatory responsibilities, represents EWU leadership to wide-ranging constituencies, and partners with community stakeholders on issues related to student conduct.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successful leadership in student affairs and will frame and implement a clear vision for Student Rights and Responsibilities and its role in supporting student development, retention, and success in pursuit of the university's mission. The Director will be well-versed in national best practices and innovative in addressing current student conduct issues. He/she will play a leadership role on campus and in the Cheney community.

The Student Rights and Responsibilities Director is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative exempt position, reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students. The position requires periodic work on weekends/evenings to respond to student needs, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience in education, counseling, judicial, or policy work
  • Knowledge of student development and emerging issues in college student conduct/discipline, with demonstrated ability to engage students in educational process
  • Demonstrated maturity in leadership and decision-making

Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education Leadership, or related field
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible, full-time experience in student conduct administration/judicial affairs in a college or university setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal and regulatory requirements related to higher education
  • Experience managing budgets and supervising staff (professional and student)
