Associate Director, Startup Garage & Entrepreneurial Curriculum

This is a fixed term position. It is full time September 15 through December 2017, and 50% part time January - May 2018.


The Startup Garage course is taught at 8:00am four days a week, and it will be essential that the Associate Director is onsite by 7am most days to prepare for the course.

JOB PURPOSE:

Work under the general direction of faculty or other management to develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the Start-up Garage Course.

This unique role at the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies (CES) supports the curriculum development and execution of the Graduate School of Business' flagship experiential entrepreneurship course, Startup Garage. As part of the Startup Garage (SUG) teaching team, the role interfaces with graduate students, faculty, alumni, and external stakeholders to continuously improve and ensure the high quality execution of the Startup Garage course. The Associate Director (AD) serves as the first point of contact for internal and external individuals, organizations, and departments attempting to connect with Startup Garage.

The AD also contributes to the strategic direction of other CES programs and learning opportunities, and their marketing/communications. He/she continually improves presentation of and communication about courses and learning opportunities, to students, especially the experiential entrepreneurship courses. Managing the organization and logistical tasks for the course, including posting of assignments, coordination of meeting schedules, and matching of teams with mentors, is also a key component of the role.

This fixed term position represents a unique opportunity for someone who wishes to immerse themselves in a fast-paced entrepreneurial learning experience as part of the team organizing this popular course where teams evaluate new business ideas.


CORE DUTIES*:

  • Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate programs, including outreach to varied stakeholders by: managing the application process for the SUG course; organizing workshops / events in collaboration with other departments; advising students; maintaining course records; and making program improvement recommendations. May develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, and partnerships.
  • May assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Create and/or advise in the development of curriculum. May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.
  • Contribute to and inform on strategic program planning and related funding and financial sustainability. (E.g. Manage funds available to students enrolled in experiential entrepreneurial courses to test their ideas)
  • Coach and mentor program interns.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Experience managing a budget.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop program partnerships.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets.
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Strong skills with basic office software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software) and sufficient computer fluency to quickly learn the curriculum software used for the course (i.e. Canvas).
  • Certifications and Licenses:

    None.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
  • On-campus mobility.
