PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH

The Limestone College Board of Trustees and Presidential Search Committee invite expressions of interest and applications for the Presidency. The new president will follow the successful twenty-six year presidency of Walt Griffin, who will retire December 31, 2017. The 172-year-old, Christian, non-denominational college is located conveniently in Gaffney, South Carolina, on I-85 between Charlotte, North Carolina and Spartanburg, South Carolina. The College seeks a visionary leader who will provide effective leadership for one of the largest enrolled (undergraduate) private colleges in the Palmetto state.

Founded in 1845, the College was a trail blazer in women’s education in South Carolina and the nation prior to coeducational offerings, and more recently, has been a leader in online and Extended Campus education. With an enrollment of more than 3000 students, Limestone College operates on a beautiful residential campus and offers degrees online and at six external sites around the state. Over the past decade and a half, the College expanded its academic offerings and residential enrollment with the assistance of a first-rate NCAA Division II athletic program. The twenty-fi ve intercollegiate teams serve over 800 full-time male and female student athletes. Since intercollegiate athletics began at Limestone in 1972, the Saints have captured six national team championships (5 men’s lacrosse, 1 men’s golf ), and seven national individual titles (3 swimming, 2 wrestling, 1 golf, 1 track & fi eld). In addition to those 13 national championships, Limestone has also produced nearly 200 All-American athletes.

The academic program includes mainly offerings at the baccalaureate level, but has a successful Masters in Business Administration program that has served students throughout the state of South Carolina. The 100 faculty members have excellent credentials with 81% holding their terminal degrees. The College offers 54 majors with its most popular Day program majors including Business Administration, Biology, Sport Management, and Physical Education & Strength and Conditioning. The most popular Extended Campus majors include Business Administration, Social Work, and Computer Science. The Fine Arts program offers music, art, and theatre and annually has more than 90 students who participate in productions and more than 20 art majors who do exhibits each year.

Students are enrolled from 34 states and 32 countries with more than 750 students living on the main campus, 450 other full-time commuters and 1850 students studying by internet or at the Extended Campus sites. Ninety-eight percent of students receive financial aid and sixty percent of students are Pell eligible.

The College highly values the family atmosphere that thrives on campus and enjoys an excellent reputation for serving and being involved in the community. The College seeks a leader that can enrich and expand these valuable relationships that are a part of the Limestone experience. The College is Christian in its focus but open to all religions. Limestone College seeks a leader of unblemished integrity, sound judgment, and moral character with a strong spiritual commitment to faith as a part of the educational experience.

Financial acumen and fundraising skills on the part of the next president are very important to the future development of the College. The internal community expects the new leader to understand and operate in a collegial fashion and with excellent communication skills.
