The Mount St. Mary's University community seeks a Dean of the School of Natural Science & Mathematics who will be the principal champion for innovative vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the School and its academic programs.

Mount St. Mary's University (MSMU) is a comprehensive, coeducational, Catholic institution dedicated to liberal learning in the pursuit of truth. The second oldest Catholic university in the country, MSMU describes itself as “Catholic in a contemporary way” and welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. Located in Emmitsburg, Maryland, MSMU serves more than 2,000 diverse undergraduate and graduate students at its two locations (Emmitsburg and Frederick, MD), promoting a holistic approach to the student experience and learning. MSMU, particularly its 120 dedicated full-time faculty, fosters an intimate and student-centered community. MSMU prides itself on a student to teacher ratio of 13:1 and that 52% of classes have fewer than 20 students.

The School of Natural Science & Mathematics integrates the liberal arts core curriculum with exceptional major coursework, allowing students to gain knowledge in their core field, all while building skills in leadership, analysis, and social justice. By engaging in discovery and authentic research throughout the curriculum, students sharpen their reasoning abilities, gain cutting-edge skills and develop an in-depth understanding of their discipline. The School's dedicated faculty work closely with students, welcoming their involvement in pioneering research. Graduates move on with the expertise to advance the frontiers of knowledge and the moral grounding to use that knowledge for the good of society.

There are ten undergraduate majors in one of three departments: Psychology, Science, and Mathematics & Computer Science. The undergraduate majors are: Biochemistry, Biology, Biology/Osteopathic dual degree, Chemistry, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Environmental Science, Health Sciences, Mathematics, and Psychology. The School also offers the M.S. in Biotechnology and Management.

Key qualifications of the successful candidate include: a record of successful teaching, service and scholarship requisite for appointment as full professor; substantive leadership experience as an academic administrator at the chair/director level or higher; significant experience with the development, implementation and assessment of academic programs; demonstrated experience with, or a strong commitment to, fundraising and external resource development, particularly for facilities and equipment; and a strong commitment to shared governance, open communication, collegiality and collaboration. A terminal degree in a discipline housed in the School is required.
