Overview:

 

Xavier University Division of Student Affairs seeks qualified applicants for the Assistant Director for Leadership and Activities role in the Office of Student Involvement. This position is a twelve-month, exempt role that works to socialize, educate and engage students via campus activities and leadership development with particular attention toward promoting civic responsibility and social justice.  This role reports to the Associate Director for Student Involvement.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

The Assistant Director for Leadership and Activities serves as the advisor for the 30 members of the Student Activities Council, which includes selection, student advisement, program supervision, budget management, contract execution, and assessment of programs.  S/he attends weekly SAC meetings in addition to meeting regularly with the SAC Leadership Team and hosting one-on-one meetings with the SAC President, Vice President and Committee Chairs.  The budget for SAC is currently $228,000 and is used to produce between 70-80 events throughout the year.  Additionally s/he serves as a chaperone for off-campus trips as well as the training for substitute chaperones to attend these off-campus programs.  SAC employs two student graphic artist interns that are supervised by the SAC Vice President in conjunction with the Assistant Director.

 

The Assistant Director is responsible for administering a comprehensive student leadership development curriculum to enhance the overall educational experience of students along with the supervision of two leadership development interns.  This curriculum currently includes a weekly first-year program (Emerging Leaders Initiative) that utilizes a framework based on emotional intelligence and StrengthsFinder, an annual first-year and sophomore Emerging Leaders Retreat, and the Sophomore Leadership Challenge which includes curriculum from The Leadership Challenge.  Additionally, s/he would have the ability to revise, develop and implement leadership curriculum.

 

The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Office of Student Involvement staff where they will engage in departmental programming, decision making and event staffing.  The office’s vision statement reads, “We believe that, through involvement, individuals discover their passions and develop their strengths to lead a purposeful life.” In addition to this role’s contribution of leadership programming and activities, the department facilitates orientation programs for new Xavier students, supports and oversees 160+ student organizations, advises the Student Government Association, manages of the Gallagher Student Center, services commuter students, and manages processes and policies for many available campus resources.  There are a number of associated events and programs within the office of which this role would have oversight for the university’s Family Weekend program. In addition, s/he would also serve as a departmental representative on university-wide committees and divisional teams as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or a transferable field with one to three years of experience in student activities, leadership programming or related area and demonstrated written and oral communication proficiency.  Graduate assistantship experience that is directly related to the role can be considered as eligible experience.  Preferred qualifications include candidates with experience in event planning, leadership development theory and curriculum, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, budget management (including Banner Finance software), contract negotiation and execution, graphic design (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canvas, etc.), and demonstrated experience working with and advocating for a broad spectrum of underrepresented populations.
