Associate Provost for Academic Affairs 

The University of Northern Iowa’s Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost seeks candidates for Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. Responsibilities of this role include advancing the university vision, mission and strategic plan in relation to academic affairs activities; providing leadership and facilitation for the curriculum development processes; coordinating academic program review and overseeing completion of relevant Board of Regents, State of Iowa (BOR) documentation; providing leadership for strategic initiatives, including working with partners on joint degree programs; assisting with providing leadership for meeting goals of the university strategic plan for undergraduate and graduate education, including coordinating engaged learning efforts at UNI; implementing and administering policies and regulations affecting students, including oversight of student requests, complaints and grievances; acting as liaison with the BOR; assisting Office of Institutional Research on accreditation; assisting in coordination of academic affairs involvement in new student orientation; guiding university-wide STEM initiatives; representing the Provost’s office on multiple external committees; and chairing the honorary degree committee. 

Required qualifications include doctorate or other terminal degree; Associate Professor rank plus at least five years of experience in higher education administration; demonstrated knowledge and skills in program planning, project management, and academic administration; evidence of successful collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion; experience with college/university personnel, policies and procedures, as well as current trends in higher education; outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening; and demonstrated commitment to affirmative action and equal opportunity procedures and principles. Preference will be given to candidates with full Professor rank and recent experience as Department Head, Associate Dean, or Dean.
