As we grow, the Rice 360° Institute for Global Health is seeking an Assistant Director of Operations. Rice 360° develops highly effective, low-cost health solutions that address critical public health needs in low-resource communities. Students in the program are trained to design and deploy highly effective, affordable technologies to solve real global health challenges. Rice 360° works closely with partners in the developing world, the private sector and with collaborators within Rice, the Texas Medical Center and other educational and medical institutions. Rice 360 has worked in communities in the United States and around the world and has staff permanently located in Blantyre, Malawi where they have partnerships with the University of Malawi Polytechnic, the University of Malawi Medical School and a long-standing relationship with the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

The Assistant Director will develop and implement processes to track the financial activities of the Institute.  S/he assists with grants preparation and submission and post-award management and reporting. The Assistant Director of Operations provides administrative, personnel and budget support for the Institute’s research, technology and educational activities. The Assistant Director of Operations reports directly to the Institute Executive Director and faculty Directors.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (in business administration, or STEM field), and extensive administration and finance experience. He/She should have at least two years experience in research grants administration (pre-award submission and post-award reporting) and financial experience (tracking funds, budget preparation and forecasting). The candidate should have strong oral and written communication skills and proficiency in Excel.

Job duties include:

-Operations administration (30%)_ Develops and implements organization protocols, procedures, and operating policies. In collaboration with in-country research and implementation teams (currently in Malawi but may expand) manages and coordinates administrative processes in the country.

-Research Administration (25%): Manages all grant administration activities. Oversees and participates in the development of grant budgets, budget justifications, Assist in obtaining approvals and submitting funding proposals. Coordinates preparation of reports to sponsors.

-Budget Management (30%): Develops the Rice 360 budget and manages business and accounting systems in collaboration with other senior members of the staff, including creating new processes, databases and forms. Creates short- and long-term financial and budgetary reporting and analysis to accomplish the mission of the Institute: monitoring effort, monitoring of annual budgets and creating budget projections.

- Personnel Administration (15%): Oversees administrative aspects of human resources, including job descriptions, recruitment, hiring, and termination paperwork. Oversees communications to staff within the Institute regarding university and funding agency policies and procedures and events and information within the University and the Institute.

We offer a salary commensurate with experience. The position start date is flexible, but ideally would be September, 2017.
