Assistant Professor - College Student Development

The Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling (HPC) at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position within the College Student Development Program at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2018.  The College Student Development program complies with the CAS standards. The program is a 48 credit hour program that accepts approximately 18 full time students each year and focuses on training practitioners for work in Student Affairs.  Students are in a cohort model with emphasis placed upon theory-to-practice.

Qualifications for this position require: A doctorate in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field completed by August 2018 and at least 5 years of experience working in Student Affairs. With social justice and inclusion as core values in the department, we seek a colleague with experience, interest, and expertise in these areas. Experience teaching core Student Affairs courses, conducting Student Affairs related research and knowledge of online/hybrid teaching is preferred. Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses, student advisement, an active program of scholarship, and participation in administrative and service activities. Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in and the ability to teach courses in student affairs, including but not limited to:

• Ethics and Law in Higher Education;
• Social Justice and Inclusion;
• Leadership and Management in Student Affairs 

HPC offers MA programs in professional school counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling and college student development, in addition to graduate certificate programs in expressive arts therapy, addictions counseling and systemic multicultural counseling.
