The School of Health Professions (SHP) at UT Health San Antonio is seeking applications for Chair for the Department of Health Sciences. Review of applications will begin immediately. The position will remain open until filled or until an adequate applicant pool is established. The Position: Reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Professions, the Chair will have a full-time, twelve-month, tenure or tenure-track faculty appointment, depending on education, experience and related qualifications. With responsibility for developing and implementing a robust strategic plan focused on establishing a world-class department, the Chair’s primary and central goal is to develop activities across all four components of the academic mission: educational excellence, research and scholarship, faculty practice and service. Supported by a well-qualified faculty, and administrative staff, the Chair will oversee all administrative, operational, research, and patient care functions of the department. Additional responsibilities include budgeting, planning, accreditation, assessment, development/fundraising, sponsored program activities, agency outreach, alumni relations, enhancing scholarly activities within the department, fostering positive/collegial relationships and other duties as assigned.
Program Direction: Preferred qualifications for this position include meeting the accreditation criteria to serve as program director for medical laboratory sciences OR respiratory care. The chair may also assume the role of program director for the program within a specific professional area (i.e. RC or MLS) or they may choose to appoint a qualified program director within the department’s faculty.
- Applicants should hold an earned doctorate (e.g. PhD) in an area relevant to health professions education or practice. Applicants holding a relevant master's degree may be considered provided that they are currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program and are meeting program standards of progress. The Department of Health Sciences (DHS) is comprised of two professional program areas – Respiratory Care (RC) and Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS). We provide students with intensive, hands-on clinical experience that prepares them to be outstanding practitioners and leaders in providing quality health care.
