The Stanford Three Strikes and Justice Advocacy Project is a nationally recognized criminal justice reform and litigation program based at Stanford Law School. The Project represents prisoners serving life sentences for nonviolent crimes, assists with prisoner reintegration to communities, and develops related policy reforms on the national, state, and local levels.
We are seeking a project manager to coordinate our âRide Homeâ national prisoner reentry project involving direct services and policy development. The Project Manager will become an integral part of a small team managing and developing strategic plans for programs that influence national public policy and criminal justice reform. This position reports to the Director and co-founder of the Justice Advocacy Project, Mike Romano.
Applicant should be highly motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently to coordinate a wide range of logistical planning and implementation of programs related to criminal defense litigation, public policy, and prisoner reentry support. Must be comfortable interacting with incarcerated clients, government officials, community organizers, policy advisors, elected officeholders, and law enforcement officers.
This is a one year fixed-term position.
Core Duties:
- Coordinate and assist future development of existing âRide
Homeâ prisoner reentry program for inmates who receive executive
clemency from President Obama. Includes maintaining relationships
with released clients, tracking reentry locations, and researching
resources across the country.
- Support litigation in state and federal courts. Includes
assisting with legal pleadings, gathering and submitting litigation
documents, managing filing systems, and tracking court
deadlines.
- Contribute to Project communications and administration
planning. Includes managing website and social media.
- Perform project associated duties including monitoring project
scope and reporting concerns to the Director.
- Compile data and generate reports and metrics related to the
project.
Requirements:
- Polished written and oral communication skills to address a
wide variety of audiences
- Demonstrated multi-tasking ability to manage multiple parallel
projects and competing priorities
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience and two years
relevant experience, or a combination of education and
experience
- Excellent Microsoft Word skills
- Proficiency using Excel
- Able to manage internal business systems
- Experience updating websites and using social media
- Comfort with significant phone contact
- Valid Driver's License, and comfort with occasional long
distance driving
Preferred:
- Experience in the areas of criminal justice reform, prisoner
reentry, and/or post-conviction litigation
- Experience with indigent and mentally ill
populations
- Interest in advanced studies and academic research in related
field
