Hawaiʻi Pacific University
Dean of the College of Business

Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for the position of dean of the College of Business.

Hawaiʻi Pacific University is a private, not-for-profit institution of approximately 4,600 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawaiʻi’s largest private university and a leader in innovative higher education. Focused on providing a unique perspective to the student experience, HPU is developing student-centric, market-based programming that responds to the evolving needs of students, employers, and the Hawai’i community.

Centrally located in Honolulu’s business district, the College of Business is deeply embedded in the community. Its urban setting fosters close ties with local business leaders and provides access to diverse industry partnerships. In the last five years, the College of Business has made significant advancements in reputation, innovative programming, and community collaborations. HPU seeks an entrepreneurial, committed leader who will build upon these recent successes and lead the College to new heights, in quality, visibility, and rankings. As the University launches the initial stages of its next strategic plan, the dean of the College of Business has a unique opportunity to position HPU as a driver of local and Pacific Region business and economic activity.

Reporting directly to the provost, the dean will be responsible for leading the College of Business through AACSB accreditation, developing both internal and external partnerships, driving enrollment, and generating new resources and revenue streams. The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, inclusive leader, and a public-facing ambassador to both the university and community. Along with strong knowledge of the Asia Pacific region, critical to this role will be a commitment to the Hawaiian culture and local values that include pono (honest and moral), kuleana (responsibility and concern for all interests, property and people) and aloha (kindness and grace). Through AACSB accreditation achievement, interdisciplinary programming, and a focus on student quality and success, the dean will have the opportunity to secure HPU’s College of Business as an anchor in the Hawaiian community and internationally.  Additional information, including a Leadership Profile, can be found at www.wittkieffer.com.

Candidates must meet minimum qualifications for a faculty appointment and possess a master’s degree with a doctorate or other terminal degree preferred. The successful candidate will have the ability to motivate and inspire, demonstrate institutional commitment and success in entrepreneurial environments, and have a deep understanding of the AACSB accreditation process.

Salary for this position is commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience. Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by September 15, 2017. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Statement, and the names and contact information of five references. References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to the Hawai’i Pacific University consultants Zachary A. Smith and Sophie Stava at HPUBusinessDean@wittkieffer.com.
