Dean of the College of Global Convergence (CGC)

Hallym University, a comprehensive university in South Korea, starts seeking a leader with strong background in academics or industry. In spring of 2018, the College of Global Convergence (CGC) will be launched by combining two current academic units – the School of International Studies (SIS) and the School of Multidisciplinary Studies (SMS) so as to consolidate the core competencies of the institution. Reporting to the President and leading a team of outstanding faculty and academic staff, the Dean of CGC is responsible for the management of the College including faculty recruitment, career development, student enrollment management, academic assessment, strategic planning, implementation of initiatives, global networking and so forth. We expect the Dean to work harmoniously with university colleagues to achieve our mission and strategic goals.

The role of the CGC Dean includes:

  1. working with the faculty members to develop and manage curriculum to eventually ensure the effectiveness of the learning and teaching in its related programs;
  2. supervising the cycle of academic program reviews and evaluations;
  3. providing the leadership and direction for long-term strategies and the development of grant proposals both for public and private sectors;
  4. developing and assessing the faculty performances including annual professional career development plans, pre-tenure (reappointment) and post-tenure summative assessments;
  5. conducting a recruitment process based on the institutional directions for tenure- or non-tenure-track faculty, adjunct faculty and any instructional specialists;
  6. being actively engaged in development and management of global network with institutions overseas;
  7. facilitating cross-unit initiatives and relationships with the deans of other academic units;
  8. collaborating with the university’s administrative body such as Academic Affairs, International Affairs and Admissions and Student Affairs on all the issues that affect successful performances of CGC students.

Successful candidates will have an earned doctorate OR equivalent job experience with more than 20 years in any field and will present administrative experience as a program director or administrator with special preference for the interdisciplinary studies programs. Qualified candidates should also be comprehensive and collegial, with an incisive mind in managing various initiatives while leading a team of faculty with diverse academic backgrounds and administrative staff members to achieve goals. Candidates should show excellent communication skills in various formats on top of strong experiences in teaching and/or program development and innovation.

 

Head of the School of International Studies (SIS)

The Hallym School of International Studies invites nominations and applications for a visionary leader to be the Head. Since 2008, the School has set the pace in globalization of research performance as well as teaching and learning to make these key values of Hallym University.

Our new head will be a scholar with international reputation, vision and leadership to balance the global outreach and scholarly initiatives with our educational mission. Strong candidate will also show quality performances in teaching, researching, and leading the faculty members and students to be capable and competitive in a dynamic global society.

The School has three major programs ─ International Trade & Business (ITB), Legal Informatics & Forensic Science (LIFS), and East Asian Studies (EAS) with specialty in translation and comparative studies on regional cultures. The School has been fully committed to making our university be a prestigious partner in global education through various avenues such as study abroad program, the ODA (official development aid) program, and any short- or long-term educational programs. In spring of 2018, the Korean Studies Program will start recruiting foreign students interested in studying topics regarding Korea. Through a cutting edge approach, this program will provide and disseminate the core contents including Korean language, history, society and culture, economy and politics, and so forth. And this program will be an option for Korean students as a double major.

Candidates must hold a doctorate degree either in economics, business, international relations or a related discipline of the School OR they must have equivalent job experience with more than 20 years in a related field. And they must demonstrate scholarly activities including grants and administrative skills. Preferred candidates should also be comprehensive and collegial, with an incisive mind in managing various initiatives while leading a team of faculty with diverse academic backgrounds and administrative staff members to achieve goals. Candidates should be excellent and effective communicators in various formats and be proactive in global networking.
