The State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh invites applications for an Admissions Advisor to be regionally based on Long Island.  As part of a dynamic Admissions team, this position is responsible for recruitment, conversion, and yield tactics to help enroll well-qualified freshman and transfer students each semester.  This full-time position will have a 10-month obligation and is anticipated to begin in mid September. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the regional manager for, and be based directly out of, the Long Island region of New York. Conduct an annual assessment of application trends and write a plan for recruitment, manage a regional budget, make all decisions pertaining to travel and recruitment initiatives.
  • Serve as primary traveler for Long Island and some areas of Queens and Staten Island. Travel to external sites (primarily high schools, community colleges, and college fair venues) for student recruitment purposes throughout the year.
  • Manage the Long Island freshman applicant pool. This will include initial application review, requests for materials, and rendering final decisions for applicants. Assist with NYC application review as needed.
  • Conduct the application review for the Students-at-Risk (STAR) admissions program. Responsibilities include working closely with fellow staff members to discern candidates for admission, interviews, and correspondence with prospective students and the Student Support Services office.
  • Deliver oral presentations about the College to large and small groups of prospective students in-person and online.
  • Conduct daily communication with prospective students including individual meetings, phone calls, and emails.
  • Build a network of school counselors, transfer advisors, and SUNY Plattsburgh students/alumni on Long Island.
  • Assist with planning and executing on- and off-campus programs, including overnight bus trips, accepted student receptions, Open Houses, and targeted athletic recruitment events.
  • Schedule meetings with currently enrolled students from Long Island at least once per year.
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
  • Write reports pertaining to areas of responsibilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Admissions Office and designated academic departments.
  • Responsible for additional responsibilities as mutually agreed upon with the Assistant Directors and the Director.

Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree; Demonstrated ability to work independently; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong analytical, organizational, and computer skills. The ability and willingness to travel (including 6-8 trips to Plattsburgh) and perform evening and weekend work is crucial. Candidates also must possess a strong work ethic and be detail-oriented. Valid driver's license and the ability to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds are also required. 

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working in college admissions or related area; Master's degree; Knowledge of SUNY Plattsburgh and surrounding region.
