Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Education (SOE) is recruiting applicants for the position of Executive Director of Licensure and Accreditation, with a start date of November 10, 2017. The Executive Director will ensure continuing national accreditation of educator preparation programs through the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation Programs (CAEP) and Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and continued approved program status with the state of Virginia. This position ensures excellence in academic support programs and oversees the Student Services Center, which provides clinical placements, review and approval of licensure applications, advising, and admission to teacher preparation. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for resolving academic and non-academic student issues. This position works closely with the Assessment Office, Department Chairs, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Academic Affairs as well as local school divisions, while also serving as the school's liaison and signatory for licensure applications with the Virginia Department of Education.

Required Experience

  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of CAEP standards and evidence of leading or co-leading a successful National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) or Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) review for a traditional teacher preparation program
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of Virginia regulations governing teacher preparation and evidence of leading a successful joint NCATE or CAEP and state approved program visit
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards and evidence of leading and preparing for a national review by CACREP
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in collaboration with school divisions to provide high quality clinical experiences, which include diverse placements
  • Knowledge of academic programs and related clinical experiences
  • Experience in working with diverse faculty, staff and students in a higher education setting
  • Evidence of effective leadership in an administrative position in higher education
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills, problem solving skills and the ability to be a team player
  • Knowledgeable about challenges in Virginia including the high number of VA teachers with provisional licensure, challenges of urban and high needs schools, and possess an understanding of the state mandate governing undergraduate programs in teacher education

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in education or a closely related field
  • The successful candidate must qualify for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment
