POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

COOPERATIVE EXTENSION - VITICULTURE ADVISOR

Serving Madera, Merced and Mariposa Counties

Across California, the University of California’s division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is an engine for problem solving.  Serving as the bridge between local issues and the power of UC research, our more than 300 campus-based specialists and county-based advisors work as teams to bring practical, unbiased, science-based answers to Californians.

We seek an academic advisor to conduct an extension, education and applied research program. The main focus of this position is to develop and integrate all aspects of wine, raisin, table and grape concentrate production in Madera, Merced and Mariposa counties.

We seek an advisor who is:

  • An innovative researcher, who can develop an applied research program, evaluate programs, and report accomplishments, results, and potential or actual impacts to scientific and lay audiences,
  • An educator, who can facilitate interactions and information exchange among campus-based academics, CE advisors and community stakeholders,
  • A collaborator, who can develop partnerships and leverage resources to develop, strengthen and expand the local delivery of statewide programs,
  • A visionary, who can complement UC ANR’s Strategic Vision, optimizing opportunities for conducting outstanding research and extension programs that meet the needs of Californians.

Madera, Merced and Mariposa counties are located in California’s San Joaquin Valley and the Sierra Nevada range foothills.  The position headquarters will be Madera County. This position is an academic career-track appointment; an earned master's degree or other advanced degrees in disciplines such as viticulture, horticulture, plant physiology or a closely related field is required by the appointment date. Background or experience in water management and/or plant mineral nutrition is desired.
