Instructional Designer/Developer (2 year fixed term position) Job Series: Instructional Design Grade H The Technology Support and Training (TST) team is a centralized support group of the Office of Development (OOD) and Stanford Alumni Association (SAA). TST trains and supports OOD staff, SAA staff, and other University users of the alumni/donor database (PostGrads) and its associated applications, used to support Stanford's fundraising and alumni relations activities.

ADAPT - the Alumni and Development Applications Platform Transition - is the multiyear technology initiative for OOD and SAA that will replace the current alumni/donor database (PostGrads) and its associated applications, with an ecosystem of modern technology tools, including Salesforce.

The ADAPT Change Management Team is responsible for communications and user adoption, which includes designing and developing learning solutions to support ADAPT production releases.

The focus of the ADAPT Instructional Designer/Developer position is to create and facilitate effective learning solutions to ensure end user adoption and incorporation into work practices.

The ADAPT Project Instructional Designer/Developer will work with the TST team, the Change Management team, subject matter experts (SMEs), and third party vendors to effectively design, develop, and deliver training to address a wide range of stakeholders and end user needs. This position reports to both the manager of the Technology Support and Training (TST) team and the ADAPT Change Management Lead.

Core Duties* Perform analysis of learning and business needs; assist in selection of learning technology and resources to aid in successful implementation and follow-up support

Consult with business owners, subject matter experts, the Change Coalition team, and the Change Management team to identify and formulate learning objectives and content

Develop user job aids, media, and technology and performance support tools/resources; create storyboards, prototypes

Design and develop course content for in-person, online, and other vehicles, including all related materials such as slides, video, instructor and participant materials

Develop and facilitate training sessions for change advocates, end users and their trainers, and others as appropriate.

Assist in building a community of best practices; coaching the Change Coalition team and other key community leaders

Interact and work with a diverse group of stakeholders, vendors and other consultants during design, development, and implementation as needed

Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods

* - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and five years of demonstrated experience in instructional design and training or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business owners, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to assess learning needs and recommend sound solutions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design methodology and utilizing such tools as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
  • Ability to facilitate learning content clearly and succinctly engaging learners
  • Experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create impactful course content and tools
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Knowledge of Stanford's alumni/donor database and its associated applications is a plus; knowledge of business functions within OOD, SAA, and Stanford University also a plus.
