Online Course Developer & Instructor - Certificate Program in Accounting

UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, is accepting applications for an online course developer within the Business, Management, and Technology department for the Certificate Program in Accounting. UC Berkeley Extension's instructors and course developers form the foundation of UC Berkeley Extension's reputation as a leader in professional and continuing education. We are currently seeking online course developer(s) for Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting respectively. The developer will also become the course instructor and has the privilege to teach at a minimum the first offering of the course. The applicant must have the subject matter expertise in the following area in addition to the development experience:
  • Financial Accounting
  • Managerial Accounting

    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MBA with emphasis in accounting required (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Professional industry experience in accounting or related area (required).
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a regionally accredited four-year college/university environment required (teaching experience at top tier universities preferred).
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail (required).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills (required).
  • Ability to commit time to approximately 4-6 hours development time a week over the course of 4-6 months (required).
  • License or certification in CPA (for financial accounting) or CMA (for managerial accounting) (preferred).
  • Experience in course development, including creating course outlines, learning objectives, video clips, homework & discussion assignments, and quiz/mid-term/final assessments (preferred).
  • Experience or comfort using the following technologies (preferred): Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, EdX, etc.); Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.); Google Home and Office tools (docs, sheets, slides, etc.); online file sharing (e.g., Google drive, Box, Dropbox, etc.); Online tele/video conferencing tools (e.g., Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, BlueJeans, Adobe Connect, etc.); online shared calendars (e.g., Google calendar, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area

    COMPENSATION:
  • Compensation commensurate with experience.

    The length of course development assignment is by agreement and based upon project milestones and deliverable. You must be available for occasional in-person meetings and phone/video conferences M-F between 9am-5pm Pacific Standard Time (PST). The anticipated time commitment for development is 4-6 hours a week over the course of 4-6 months.

    The teaching assignment is also by agreement for each term (semester). Each classroom accounting class requires 45 instructional hours scheduled in 15 week nights at 3 hours each night. Each online class requires instructor to check in to the classroom several times daily to lead the classroom discussion and answer students' questions.
