Seeking forward-thinking, motivational, and experienced librarian to lead Libraries’ Research and Learning Services division. Depending on qualifications and experience of selected candidate, this hire may be at the tenured or tenure-track Associate Librarian or Librarian level. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Dean is a member of the Libraries’ senior leadership team and will join a vibrant, energized, and successful research library at a moment of exceptional opportunity and excitement; serves as lead architect of a set of user-centered library spaces and services that support and foster university and campus strategic plans, enhance student engagement with scholarship, foster experiential learning, and empower students and faculty to create new knowledge; is responsible for creating a collaborative environment that cultivates and shapes the vision for research and learning services both within the division and across the libraries; participates and provides leadership in philanthropic efforts for identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects and donors critical to long term library success and sustainability. The following departments report directly to this position:  Access Services, Arts and Humanities, Area Studies, Social Sciences, Sciences, Reference Services/Scholars’ Commons, Discovery and User Experience, and Teaching and Learning, with a total of 32 librarians, 6.5 professional staff, 18 support staff, and 25 FTE student staff. The Associate Dean joins a highly collaborative senior leadership team composed of the Dean of University Libraries and the Associate/Assistant Deans for Collection Development and Archival Collections, Research and Technology Strategies, Library Technologies, Technical Services, and Advancement. As a member of the senior leadership team, this position participates in determining overall library direction, resource allocation, and strategic planning aligned with university and campus missions and strategic plans. All Associate Deans promote the Libraries’ culture of diversity and inclusion, and support the values outlined in IU Bloomington’s Campus Bicentennial Strategic Plan (https://provost.indiana.edu/strategic-plan/), the Libraries Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/strategicplan), and the Libraries’ Diversity Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/diversity-strategic-plan-20162017pdf ).  The Associate Dean for Research and Learning Services will cultivate an especially effective working relationship with the Associate Dean for Collection Development and Archival Collections to maximize the positive synergies between collection development and outreach/engagement. Working together, they will ensure that outreach/public services and collection development activities of all librarians and staff, regardless of their organizational division, are appropriately directed, supported, and evaluated. QualificationsRequired: ALA-accredited Master’s degree or advanced degree in relevant field and appropriate experience in an academic library; substantial demonstrated successful leadership experience in increasingly responsible positions in an academic/research library; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the role of libraries in teaching, research and scholarship, with expertise in one or more areas of academic library public services; knowledge of trends in technology and their application to libraries; demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain  productive working relationships with academic units and departments, administrators and researchers; ability to serve as an advocate and representative for the Libraries; effective supervisory and team building experience; strong record of professional contributions and engagement, including publications, presentations, and service in local, regional and/or national organizations; ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track librarian position (https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/promotion-and-tenure-criteria-iub-librarians-pdf); understanding and valuing of diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization. Preferred: a second Master’s degree; demonstrated ability to lead organizational change; experience in financial management and success in grant writing; experience in development, fundraising, and donor relations; demonstrated experience in library assessment data analysis.
