The College of Fine and Applied Arts invites applicants for the position of Academic Advisor. The College includes 7 academic departments, with approximately 2000 students. This position provides coordinated quality advising for each department in the College. 

The College Academic Advisor reports to the Dean and works closely with the Associate Dean and staff in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, to support advising throughout the college. Additionally, the Academic Advisor will work with department chairs, faculty advisors, colleagues in comparable offices across campus, and other offices that provide academic support. 

In the role of College Academic Advisor, responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

assisting students with developing appropriate and realistic academic plans, course selection, and monitoring academic progress; assisting students in academic trouble with strategies for achieving academic success; assisting with planning for semester or year-long study abroad programs, assisting with internships, developing and executing programs for new and continuing students to disseminate information about academic programs and policies; and providing guidance to faculty and staff on student issues and academic policies.

The academic advisor will serve on university committees as requested by the Dean or Associate Dean.

The academic advisor will have a caseload of students to advise but will primarily work with departments to assist faculty advisors with advising students.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Strong desire to work with a college-age student population and commitment to student success
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in a team environment requiring both ability to take initiative and work independently as well as collaboratively

  • Ability to quickly learn technical advising tools including, but not limited to, Banner, Degree Works, Fortis, Self-Service, Dashboard and E-Print

  • Evidence of excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
